Katra or popularly known as Katra Vaishno Devi, 45 Km from Jammu, is more of a religious spot than a hill station. The panoramic views that you will experience while trekking to the Vaishno Devi temple will surely mesmerize you. In fact, Katra is the starting point where you have to register for 14 Km trek to the temple.
Adventure activities in Katra
You can make your visit to Katra worth by trying out the adventure activities besides visiting the Vaishno Devi temple. Trekking is a good option to reach the temple. The 14Km road will give you immense pleasure, while the nature lovers will find the route to be very much pleasing. You can also plan a trip to Patnitop, 80 Km away from Katra. The picturesque mountains and calm nature will take you very close to the nature. Picnic is another option that visitors try in Patnitop. You can also set up adventure camps close to the nature. Nau Devi temple, 60-70 steps down from the road level, a good place to worship the goddess, is admired by the tourists.
How to reach
Satwari Airport or Jammu Airport is the nearest air base from Katra. Katra is only 48 Km from the airport where regular flight service is available connecting the major cities of India.
Jammu Tawi is the only rail station near Katra. Visitors coming from various part of the country have to take car or bus to reach the Katra Vaishno Devi temple.
Katra is very close to Jammu and takes only one hour to reach. The town is well connected with other major cities of India among which Chandigarh (392 Km), Srinagar (265 Km), Amristar (256 Km), Dalhousie (220 Km), Kangra (240 Km), Chamba (257 Km). Also, local buses and private cars are available to reach Dera baba banda (30 Km) and Shiv Khori Shrine (85Km).
